Just a week after the Nigerian Senate passed the anti-gay sex bill, US president Barrack Obama issued a presidential memorandum directing 'all federal agencies engaged abroad to ensure that U.S. diplomacy and foreign assistance promote and protect the human rights of LGBT persons.

Nigerian Senate Bans Same Sex Marriage in Nigeria. Places 14 year Jail Term for Offenders
10 years in prison for ‘any person who … directly or indirectly makes public show of same-sex amorous relationships,’ 10 years for aiding same-sex unions
Nigeria’s senate passed a bill on Tuesday outlawing same-sex marriages in Africa’s most populous country as well as banning public displays of affection between homosexual couples.
Approval of the bill, which must still be voted on by the House of Representatives and signed by President Goodluck Jonathan, came after debate that saw one lawmaker go as far as to suggest that offenders be killed.
